Last year’s Run-A-Thon was a great success and we appreciate everyone who supported our students! We are so excited to do it again this year, with a few changes! HES’s Student Council members are helping organize, fundraise, and direct our Fun Run. We were motivated by the upcoming “Civil War,” so students will be representing both of our Oregon football teams. The Fun Run date will be held November 21st, just days before our Oregon teams face off. Weather permitting we will host the run on our adjoining football field. If the weather is uncooperative, we will need to make sure we dress for the gym!!
You are personally invited to support our Civil War Fun Run! While the purpose of this event is to raise money, it also promotes physical fitness and builds school spirit while creating a fun and memorable way for our students to participate in supporting their education. Student Council members are also exercising their leadership roles while assisting in the fundraiser. This event was created to raise funds for our ASB account. Our ASB funds contribute to our basketball reading, annual outdoor school, field trips, Red Ribbon Week, Dr. Seuss Day, Fun Day activities/prizes, Field Day, and a multitude of educational activities. If each student brings in a total of $50 in pledges we will be able to reach our goal.

Join us in welcoming Blaine Gibbs to Heppner Jr/Sr High School for the 2023-24 school year! Blaine will be teaching SPED classes. He holds a degree in Psychology from Boise State University. Originally from Redmond, his hobbies include snowboarding, frisbee golf, and any outdoor activity that gets him moving. He has four younger brothers, which led him to work in education. With a background as an Instructional Assistant in Cascade Locks, he's eager to connect with a new community and embrace a change of pace from city living. Something he’d like to try in the future is coaching for personal and professional development.

Let’s say hello to Kaitlynn Evans, who is joining Heppner Elementary School for the 2023-24 school year! Kaitlynn graduated from Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She grew up in Heppner and says enjoys hunting and heavy metal concerts (not at the same time 😆). Kaitlynn's favorite dish is her mom's enchilada casserole. Her experience in the mental health field led her to find her calling to work with youth.
This year, Kaitlynn is excited to cultivate a sense of family within her Heppner classroom and MCSD, embrace personal growth, and build a home for her family. She's looking forward to forming strong connections and providing a supportive environment. Kaitlynn would like to learn more about home design and possibly how to make pottery this year! She says she is an open book, ready to share her knowledge and experiences.

Please join us in welcoming Jill Janicek to Heppner Elementary! Jill will be teaching Third Grade for the 2023-24 school year. She brings with her a Bachelor's degree from Boise State University and hails from New Plymouth, Idaho. Jill loves outdoor adventures, spending time in nature, playing the piano, and even snorkeling in Hawaii when possible. Her drink of choice is unsweetened iced, and she enjoys teriyaki salmon. With an impressive 30 years of teaching experience, including all K-8 grades, Jill's journey has led her to Heppner, and she's excited to be part of the community. She's thrilled to engage with her students, build connections, and contribute to their growth. Jill's unique interests include side-by-side adventures and learning to play her Imagine Dragons music book on the piano, all while nurturing her sense of wonder.
